Biorhythm 2 - early house/techno album

Visiting my good friends Vicky and Darren (who often dj with me at my party at Catch 22 in London every Wednesday) over the weekend and always amazed at their deep knowledge of especially certain pockets of music from the early 90's. Darren volunteered a cassette that has genuine critical cred instead of something that I happen upon in the Dalston Oxfam Shop bin (there are a few Celine Dion and M People cassettes in case anyone is looking for them). Hence, Biorhythm 2. Lots of august names on here. For those of you who don't know, Model 500 is techno legend Juan Atkins, Energise is Dave "Joey Negro" Lee, Nexus 21 is Mark Archer and Chris Peat, also known as legendary nu-ly cool again rave-sters Altern 8 and finally, Rhythim is Rhythim is none other than Derrick May. So this is quite a cassette. And what does all this go to show? . . . I can do wonders with discogs ;)

I personally am preferring this sound below right now (one of my current fave rave tracks). But I know that if I listen to the stuff on Biorhythm 2 enough it will seep in.

Nice find!

Both the Biorhythms LPs are fantastic. My personal favourite on 2 is the Xon track - it's deep deep techno. And the Model 500 track is also great.

Only me again...

Just wondering, when you say "nu-ly cool again rave-sters Altern 8", have they been doing anything new or is there just some renewed interest in the back catalogue?

I just think that I have been seeing a number of references to Altern8 in conversations by hipsters/new djs who rate them higher perhaps than others from that decade. I think I heard references that one of Tiga's recent tunes was originally based on an Altern8 tune, but that may have been conjecture.

Mr.H,
Just a quick shout "hello" - I literally stumbled over your blog (hooray for the "next blog" button on blogger..) Absolutely LOVE the Durr podcast; have been going crazy for it since download... hope to make it back to London soon and have fun on a Monday night myself.

Anyway; great blog, awesome concept - thanks for the Ride A White Horse download - been after this version for ages.

Keep up the great work,

Mark

Both of the Biorhythms lp's are quality 'underground' compilations - see if you can find vol.1 (equally as good) and thanks for the mention about Altern 8 being cool - I never thought i'd see the day - lol.
Mark.

I wouldn't swear to it but I'm fairly sure Nexus 21 became Altern8

hi...just wanted to say firstly...this blog is amazing...and...secondly...i used to live in dalston, which adds a weird perspective to all your finds...! and thirdly that this tape release contains 4 more tracks than the original vinyl...[i own 1&2 ...lucky me]...

nu-ly cool is correct...i live in newcastle now and the rave scene is strong...playing old skool tunes regularly at 'deformation/speakerhug' + acts like 'tokyo acid cru'...

thanks once again

both the tracks by c and m connection and nexus 21 are in fact wrien and produced by the pople who became our favourie vicks snorting rave clowns altern 8, a lot of the altern8 songs are basd n samples otheir own tracks as nexus 21 and c and m connection, ps the biorhythm albums were he first techno tapes i bought back when i was a little kid, i blame the for my declie ito vicks snorting ravedom ;)
